Antler love

I am not what you would call outdoorsy.  This will come as no surprise to anyone who has ever spent 10 minutes with me.  However, I do love to look at all that God has created and even like some of those things in my home.  That being said, I love to use antlers to decorate.  The problem is that they are SO expensive, and it is silly to pay for them when I live with someone who eats, breathes, and thinks about deer hunting 24/7.  I mean, we scheduled our wedding around deer season for goodness sake.  Have you ever?  Back to the topic.....Gabe killed a small buck earlier in the season (I just died a little typing that) and said he would save the antlers and mount them for me.  That is true love people.  Here are pictures of the steps and final product.  I have to say that I didn't think about blogging this until after most of the work was complete so I don't have pictures of all the steps, but you'll get the idea.

First, I purchased a "naked" wood plaque from Hobby Lobby for about $2.00.  I love me some Hobby Lobby.  Then, Gabe stained it a dark color.  It will probably take a few coats of stain to get the right color - just fyi.

My man then cleaned the antlers (I have no idea how he did that, but I'm sure you can google it).  The base of the antlers looked a little nasty so my crafty hubs covered it with burlap and a hot glue gun.  He is going to kill me for writing that.

Lastly, he used the drill to screw the antlers on to the plaque.  Easy peasy...and VERY inexpensive.  Now to decide where to hang it.

Just some stuff....

We've had a busy week around here.  How about you?  It seems like the end of the school year is crammed with activities, but I sure don't mind.  We have all summer to relax.  All 2 months of it.  Gah.  What happened to the good ol' days when we had 3 months?  Now I'm just sounding old.

Here are a few things that happened in the Wight household this week:

Emme played her last t-ball game of the season.  What a season it was!  There is nothing cuter than a bunch of 4 and 5 year olds running the bases, trying to figure out where short stop/first base/outfield is, and sometimes stopping to pick a few flowers (and noses) along the way.  I loved it!!!  She already told us she wants to play again next year.  If so, I hope she gets the same coaches.  They were SOOOO wonderful!!!!

Eli's school had Donuts with Dad and Muffins with Mom this morning.  It is always so nice seeing  parents, kids, teachers, and also getting caught up on what's happening at school.  AND they had Krispy Kreme donuts.  Cream filled.  Need I say more?

Guess who is the new PTSO (PTA) President?  THIS GIRL!  I am the first to admit I have no idea what I'm doing, but the previous president is wonderful and extremely organized, and I'll be walking into a smooth-running machine.  I didn't realize how much PTSO does for the school.  It is such a great organization, and I'm excited to help.  Please comment with fundraisers and fun activities your schools do so I can get some ideas.  I would greatly appreciate it!!!

Last, but not least....I heard Third Day sing one of my favorite songs "Blessed Assurance".  Have you heard it?  It is so good.  Here it is if you have a few minutes.  You'll be blessed!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!!!!

The Sanctuary

Gabe and I just returned from a wonderful, kid-free vacation.  We have some extremely generous and caring friends who wanted to send us to a resort in Phoenix called The Sanctuary to celebrate the completion of my "big" cancer procedures (www.sanctuaryoncamelback.com). Since I was diagnosed last June, Gabe and I have been in doctor mode and have not been able to truly relax.  Well, let me tell you...we made up for that!  We slept in, laid by the pool, read, watched a gorgeous sunset, and stuffed ourselves silly.  It was FABULOUS!!!!  We didn't even watch television.  If that's not sacrificial love on my part, I don't know what is. :-)  Here are a few pictures from the trip:

We each had our own pair of flip flops for the weekend, courtesy of the resort...it's the little things, y'all.

The resort was nestled into this mountain.  Heaven.

It was hard work to lay by the pool everyday.

Watching the sunset from the resort restaurant.

Their "turn down service" included the next day's forecast.  Why can't I get this in my own home?

What a weekend!  I could get used to that, but I wouldn't trade my busy, sleep-deprived, peanut butter and jelly sandwich eating, in the car all the time life for the world!  Being a wife and a mom is the best....

Race for the Cure 2014

Hi!  A few weeks ago our family and friends participated in Race for the Cure.  Gabe and I have always enjoyed it as a fun run (ok. ok.  I walked most of it), but this year it meant so much more.  As most of you know, I was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2013 and have been fighting it ever since.  I was so grateful to finish radiation in April, because that gave me enough strength to walk the 5k.  Our sweet friends at My Brother's Salsa www.mybrotherssalsa.com sponsored Team Robin, and many of our closest friends and family showed up to walk with me.  What an experience!! It is one I'll never forget, and I hope my kids don't either.  Here are a few pictures from that day.

I am such a blessed girl.  I have so many friends and family who support me and have loved on me, Gabe, and the kids during this difficult year.  Thank you so much!!!  You know who you are!!!!

Here we go....

Hi!  Thank you for stopping by.  I must admit that I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to blogging, but it is something I've wanted to attempt for a while.  I love to decorate and plan to post pictures of my home, as well as any crafts or DIY projects that are photo worthy.  I will also post snapshots of our life, words of inspiration, and anything else that comes to my mind.  Scary.  I know.  Thanks again for going on this journey with me.  Here we go.....
